Scenic route option? No

Multiple destinations? Maximum 2 stops on route

Any other route options? Can be set to avoid toll roads, long dirt roads and freeways. There are two possible routes- the fastest, or the one with the least mileage

Works without internet? As long as your phone’s GPS works the map will work, just without functions such as road block notifications

Cost? Free

2. Google maps:

Scenic route option? No

Multiple destinations? No

Any other route options? Can be set to avoid toll roads, highways and ferries

Works without internet? Kind of- it will save a segment of your route if you’re suddenly offline

Cost? Free

3: Motomaps

Multiple destinations? Yes, but only through planning on the Furcot website

Any other route options? Options to avoid highways and traffic. Allows you to play music, and changes the volume according to your speed.

Works without internet? Probably yes, but with limited functionality; GPS runs constantly and automatically in the background

Cost? £1.49

4: Apple Maps

Scenic route option? No

Multiple destinations? No

Any other route options? No

Works without internet? No

Cost? Free
(Apple maps is probably the worst one for motorcyclists- we recommend you avoid it)

5: GPS Motionx

Scenic route option? No

Multiple destinations? No

Any other route options? You can import routes from other applications

Works without internet? Yes, you can download the map of the area you need and have it available at any time, no internet necessary

Cost? £1.49

6: Garmin

Scenic route option? There is an ‘off-road’ option, which may or may not be scenic!

Multiple destinations? Yes, and the amount is unlimited. However, the app might mess up more often if you add too many stops

Any other route options? There are many options on this app, including avoiding traffic, U-turns, carpool lanes, etc.

Works without internet? Yes

Cost? Free, but you need a Garmin device too

7: GPS Navigation by Scout

Scenic route option? No

Multiple destinations? No

Any other route options? You can avoid highways, toll roads and ferries. Also there are multiple route options, as you can go for the fastest, shortest or most efficient

Works without internet? Yes

Cost? Free

8: AOL Mapquest

Scenic route option? No

Multiple destinations? Up to 26 stops per route!!

Any other route options? Avoid highways, toll roads, dirt roads, border crossings and ferries

Works without internet? No

Cost? Free

9: TomTom

Scenic route option? Yes

Multiple destinations? Maximum of 7 stops en route.

Any other route options? The number of ‘winding roads’ can be reduced or increased.

Works without internet? Yes
